Weekly Update: Self-Employment Progress

update3

Just a quick update this week because there’s not a huge amount of progress to report. But, we continue to take steps in the direction of our goals. We’re getting into the process of designing our websites, and that was the main focus of our progress this week. We keep having to remind ourselves (and each other) that everything doesn’t have to be perfect from “Day 1.” Both of us tend to over-analyze every element of our sites and every step along the way. Yes, we are our own worst enemies at times! So, If you’re going through this process with us, try to keep in mind that your site will never be “perfect” or “finished.” Throughout the life of your business, your site will continue to grow and evolve based on your customers’ needs, business demands, and a host of other factors. Okay, with that said, here’s what we’ve been up to this week…

August Update

Well, August was an interesting month. As Scott alluded to in his August Progress Report, we got kind of wrapped up in a whole heap of “shit happens” and didn’t make as much progress as we would have liked to. I had a death in the family, and Mom went back in the hospital for her surgery to get all her plumbing put back together (if you missed that story, you can read Murphy’s Law Strikes Back). Mom’s back home now and recuperating (again)…so far, so good. I’m also experiencing an interesting turn of events with my employer. Can’t discuss the details at the moment. But, I can tell you that I have some time off – like it or not. So, I’m more determined than ever to make some major self-employment progress in September. Mix some spare time with desperation and lost wages and you get a sure-fire “get off your ass and make it happen” formula!

Murphy’s Law Strikes Back

Murphy’s Law: Anything That Can Go Wrong, Will Go Wrong.

Speed Bump_Small_578725_89691541 As we’ve explained before, we try to keep it real here at Quitters. Among other things, that means we want to be open and honest about the obstacles that come up that make it challenging for us to pursue our goals of becoming successfully self-employed. With that in mind, I wanted to post a quick update to explain my recent unexpected absence. Friday, a large glowing metallic disc descended from the night sky and hovered several inches above the ground in our back yard. Ok, I wasn’t really abducted by aliens. But that would’ve made for one helluva’ blog post, wouldn’t it?! Ok, on a (somewhat rare) serious note…

On Saturday, April 4th, my mother underwent emergency surgery to repair a perforated colon. If any of you are considering it, I would definitely recommend against having a perforated colon. It’s not a good thing. Even though it was broke, the surgeon apparently liked Mamma’s colon, because he decided to keep about 8 inches of it.

31 Days to Building a Better Blog: UPDATE

Read the original post about the ProBlogger challenge HERE

Just got an email from Darren Rowse at ProBlogger. The start of “31 Days to Building a Better Blog” challenge has been delayed one week. The original start date was set for April 1st. The new start date is April 6th. Here’s more news from Darren’s email:

Forums are coming

As I wrote on ProBlogger last week I’ve decided to make this year’s #31DBBB more interactive with the introduction of a forum area exclusively for signed up members (that’s you).

My hope is that in doing so this will become a much more communal experience for everyone involved. Together we can achieve a lot in the 31 days!
I’ll be in touch with details of how to access the forums in the days before we start.

Darren reports that there are currently over 6500 people registered for the Challenge. Are you one of them? If not, don’t miss out. Go HERE and register before APRIL 6.

Work From Home Call Center Agent: Update

Convergys update:

A while back I posted a review about working from home as a call center agent, and gave you a list of nifty links to a bunch of companies that hire work from home agents. One of them was Convergys.

According to a recent article in The Colorado Springs Gazette, Convergys is looking to expand its home agent program. They’re hoping to recruit 2,000 more work-at-home call center agents this year. So, if you’ve been on the fence thinking about trying out this type of opportunity, now might be a great time to give it a go!
